Devious Journal Entry

Thu May 13, 2004, 9:21 PM
Just a note. Don't know if anyone has been trying to follow my progression as an artist. If you have you have seen the quiet period. I am dry right now. Lot of things going on in other areas of my life, but I've not been able to accomodate my art. I have images burning through my brain , searing the inside of my skull. They will show up here one day soon, I just need to play with that light more.

"The way of the artist, regardless of the art, is a
life of eating bitter. One learns not to consider how things taste. If the stagnant life drags you down seek adventure."
so sayeth that Sage and Teacher of mine

I've jumped into this thing with both feet. I know little but how to search.

It occurs to me that many people creating digital art are treating it as just another way of creating that same art that they have seen and done in the real world. This is so sad to me.

Even worse are those who see digital art as merley a sequence of filters and alpha channels to apply to an image.

Vector is the first True art form to emerge, but it to has already become codified.

The nature of software is such that each app or suite locks you into using that app or suite.

My lack of formal training frustrates me often because I cannot get an image from my mind to "paper" (heh), but I don't think I would have it any way.

In the last month I have taught myself the Gimp, Sodipodi, Adobe Illustrator, Deneba Canvas 9, Adobe Photoshop, (relearned) Painter 7, Expression 3 (man what a wonderfull app) and a host of small free and shareware apps. I have come close to mastering none of them - but I am comfortable with them all.

An app is a tool in the way that a brush or pencil or screen is. If I were to master Photoshop I would become a technician. I seek artist

You can adjust the gamma on your mac before you post pics, and color correct them pretty easily from the control panels, if it is a concern. But since I use a mac, your shit looks great to me. Anyone who like the poopsmith cant be all bad. :)
